Structural consolidation by means of micropiles in the wall of the church of Sauris di Sotto for the purpose of public safety.
Municipality of Sauris, Udine, Italy
Some parts of the wall, made of partially squared stone blocks laid dry on the underlying slope, were unstable. Therefore, the following building and structural works were needed:
- Removal of the existing iron safety rails and piling-up of the rails in a reserved area of the construction yard;
- Excavation of foundations adjacent to the wall to ease soil pressure on it;
- Construction of a Berlin-type wall with micropiles connected by a beam on the top braced upstream by double-ply tie rods;
- Restoration of the initial conditions of the site in compliance with the requirements of the Superintendence for Cultural and Environmental Heritage.
